Accuride announces the launch of Model 115, a linear motion ball bearing slide that provides captive travel within the length of the outer member.

Model 115 may be side, flat, or vertically mounted. When mounted vertically, it may be used as a guide in non load-bearing applications. This product provides a low-cost solution for component guidance, support, or adjustment in a wide range of applications such as access to laptop docking stations in utility vehicles; bins for postal vehicles; reading machines for the visually impaired; traffic barriers; diagnostic equipment; and material handling in manufacturing machinery.

When mounted flat in pairs, Model 115 offers up to a 132-pound load rating; side mounted installations are up to 110 pounds per pair. A guide belt synchronizes the moving elements of the slide, ensuring smooth and consistent travel, while the moving member is fully supported on ball bearings at all times.

This product has been tested to 10,000 cycles and is available in zinc in lengths of 12″ to 28″ in 2″ increments, plus 32″, 36″, and 40″. It is RoHS compliant.

AMCI’s 3100 series modules provide encoder feedback in addition to a wide range of motion commands, satisfying simple to sophisticated application requirements. Both the 3102 and 3102i are 100% compatible with MicroLogix 1100, 1200, and 1400, and are easy to program using Allen-Bradley’s RSLogix 500 software.

AMCI’s 3100 series motion modules are easy to program with no extra software required, and offer a wide range of motion commands including registration, jogging/changing speed on the fly, and blend moves. Linear and circular interpolation are exclusive to the 3102i module, enabling more sophisticated motion control. Both modules provide encoder feedback, providing closed-loop positioning.

The 3102 module can control servo and/or stepper drives with step/direction input.  Motion commands include jog, home, and point-to-point control. Common applications for this motion controller include assembly lines, conveyor control, in-process gauging, and valve control, among others.

Developed to simplify more complex applications, the 3102i module includes linear and circular interpolation commands. These additional features make this module stand out with the ability to reach specific target positions and output contoured motion profiles.  Popular applications for this more advanced controller include high-speed assembly, water jet cutting, storage and sorting, laser trimming, needle inspection systems, and more.

Kübler by TURCK encoders use non-contact technology and can survive environments with high vibration (30g/10-2,000 Hz) and shock (500 g’s/1ms). The products can also be used outdoors, due to an IP 67 protection rating, wide temperature range and the weatherproof die-cast housing. The metal housing also offers improved shielding against electromagnetic interference.

A built-in LED provides a warning signal or an index pulse, allowing for simple set-up and diagnostics. Connections are made via a high-grade shielded PUR cable that is also suitable for cable track installations.

RX Energy Tube from igus

October 14, 2009 by admin
Filed under Cable Carriers, Cables, Featured

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – igus® has now developed an energy tube especially for the machine-tool industry that is almost 100 percent chip-proof. The airtight, fully enclosed cable carrier ensures all debris simply falls off.

igus® is using the FABTECH show in November to launch the new-style “RX” energy tube, which has a specially designed, smooth domed exterior onto which debris—such as metal or wood chips—can not attach itself. Connecting parts are concealed on the interior to facilitate this. Comprehensive tests—including underwater experiments—have been carried out in igus®’ test laboratories which confirm the new energy tube is 100 percent airtight.

igus-RX-energy-tubes.jpg

Despite this, the RX energy tube can be easily opened using a screwdriver to unscrew bolts integrated into the outer radius of each link. There is also a very large interior space for cables and hoses, which can be separated using vertical separators, and a horizontal shelf to safely route cables and hoses and thereby prevent abrasion. Both these features mean maintenance and machine downtimes are reduced to a minimum.

igus-RX-energy-tubes-RXTube.jpg

The new energy tube is well suited to short, self-supporting lengths inside tooling machines. The chip-proof cable carrier was also developed to be used in reverse bending radius (RBR) applications. The RX energy tube is available in a high-temperature version, made from the special, high-temperature material “igumid HT”. This version ensures that even red-hot chips up to 1,562 degrees Fahrenheit fall off the tube rather than melt onto it. The enclosed cable carriers can also be delivered as pre-assembled ReadyChains®; ready harnessed with cables, hoses, and internal separators, as required by the customer.

ServoTube Hygienic Linear Actuator

October 13, 2009 by admin
Filed under Featured, Linear Actuators, Linear Motors

Copley Motion Systems will launch a new high performance direct drive linear motor at SPS/IPC/Drives this year in Nuremberg that is constructed entirely from stainless steel for use in the most demanding industrial environments.

copley-ServoTube-Hygienic.jpg

The ServoTube Hygienic is constructed from precision machined austenitic stainless steel, with a smooth hygienic design that is free from dirt traps and suitable for use in the most demanding and corrosive industrial or aseptic environments.

Because there is no mechanical linkage between the fixed forcer body and the moving rod, there is no wear and its integrated field-replaceable polymer bearings require no lubrication. The position sensor is always accurate, and is protected from dirt or damage because it is built into the direct drive linear motor’s body. This elemental design meets the DIN IP69K ingress protection requirements, allowing the linear motor to be used in dirty or wet environments and to be cleaned with pressurized jet wash systems.

Direct drive motion also offers significant performance improvements compared to existing linear systems. High peak force and low inertia guarantees highly dynamic movements, and the ServoTube Hygienic offers 25 micron repeatability throughout the lifetime of the linear motor.

Marketing Director Steve Hickman commented, “The ServoTube Hygienic is the first linear actuator that can be used in the real-life wash-down applications our customers have to operate in. We believe that its IP69K ingress protection rating, non-corrosive all stainless construction and high speed actuation offers no-compromise linear motion for the most demanding hygienic and industrial processing environments.”

Whereas existing belt drive and ballscrew drive linear systems comprise several component parts, the ServoTube range of direct drive linear motors require only a standard Servo drive, and where applicable, a linear rail to operate. This reduces system complexity, maintenance and saves space – because no servomotor or gearhead is required.

Electrically, the ServoTube Hygienic operates from a 3-phase 600V supply and provides a digital incremental encoder and commutation output for use with most standard digital servo drives.

Available from November, the ServoTube Hygienic will be initially available in two models that both offer +/-400 micron position accuracy and 25 micron repeatability. The XHB3804 and XHB3810 provide 744 and 1860N peak force capability and are capable of speeds of 4.7 and 2.6m/s respectively. Both models can be water cooled providing up to 70% extra continuous force for applications requiring high work rates, or for use in environments with a high ambient temperature.

The ServoTube Hygienic provides highly compact, high throughput moving rod linear actuation with integrated field replaceable polymer bearings to support the moving rod. For off-axis loads an external bearing rail can be used.

This specialized linear direct drive linear motor is suitable for applications including food and pharmaceutical processing and packaging, industrial plants, chemical processing, and any environment where dirt, pressurized jet washing, and corrosive cleaning chemicals make standard linear actuation systems unsuitable.
