SRA04 Motorized ScrewRail linear actuator’s design conserves space

Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions (www.haydonkerk.com) has unveiled the SRA04 Motorized ScrewRail Linear Actuator that features an integrated size 11 stepper motor.

Haydon Kerk SRA04 Motorized ScrewRail Linear Actuator

Unlike traditional two rail system, this motorized ScrewRail saves space by as much as 80 percent. The simplified design, assembly and manufacture of its motion system eliminate the need for an external rail-to-screw alignment.

The ScrewRail is comprised of a Kerk precision rolled lead screw contained in a concentric steel guide rail and supported by sealed ball bearings. Its self-lubricating nut/bushing material and KerKote TFE coating guarantees zero maintenance and longer life. Capable of simultaneously lifting and rotating (Z-theta motion) when mounted vertically, the ScrewRail is suitable for pick-and-place mechanisms. It is available both in anti-backlash (SRZ) and freewheeling (SRA) nut assembly and is offered in up to 72-inch stroke length.

It utilizes a size 11 Haydon hybrid double stack stepper motor, which comes with an integral connector or flying leads. Its RoHS-compliant connector that is rated up to three amps, provides a positive latch to deliver high connection integrity. Meanwhile, its mating connector supports various wire sizes that range from 22 to 28 gauge.

Aside from pick-and-place mechanisms, the SRA04 motorized ScrewRail is also ideal for robotic assemblies in semiconductor equipment, life sciences instrumentation, packaging and assembly, business machines, and a vast array of factory automation applications. Used together with the company’s extensive offering of motion control components, customers can create their own custom systems for numerous kinds of motion.

Haydon unveils new linear actuators

Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions (www.haydonkerk.com) has proudly released an exceptional line of hybrid stepper motor linear actuators that offer new avenues for equipment designers who require exceptional endurance and high performance in a small package. Its numerous patent pending designs utilize a proprietary manufacturing process, which integrates engineering thermoplastics in the stainless steel acme lead screw and the rotor drive nut. This enables the linear actuator to be more durable, more efficient and much quieter than the bronze nut and v-thread configuration generally used in other linear actuators. Motor life is enhanced more than 10 times compared to the traditional bronze nut style – and it does not affect the cost and requires no maintenance. It also features a bearing pre-load adjustment that does not protrude from the motor configuration usually used in other actuators.

Haydon hybrid stepper motor linear actuators

Haydon’s hybrid linear actuators consist of six sizes, from 21 to 87 mm square corresponding to NEMA size 11, 8, 17, 14, 34 and 23. Each size comes in three designs – non-captive, captive and an external linear version. There are more than 20 different travels per step available, from .001524 mm (.00006 inch) to .127 mm (.005 inch). It also allows micro stepping to achieve even finer resolution.

Haydon’s linear actuators are suitable for applications that require a combination of rapid motion, long life and precise positioning. Typical applications include X-Y tables, semiconductor handling, medical equipment, valve control, telecommunications equipment and numerous other uses.

Linear Stepper X-Y Positioning Base

Baldor Electric Company launches a ready-engineered linear stepper X-Y positioning base that is capable of dramatically increasing productivity in a wide range of machinery applications. A novel honeycomb-structured composite material used on the base greatly reduces the cost of applying advanced linear motor technology — to prices starting from $7000 — providing machinery builders with a highly competitive alternative to traditional solutions such as rotary motors and ballscrews or belts.

baldor xy base

Designated the HoneyComb Series, Baldor’s new X-Y bases are available in a choice of seven standard sizes with square or rectangular working areas ranging from 375 x 375 to 750 x 1500 mm. This range supports a wide variety of applications in markets including design prototyping, semiconductor fabrication, electronics manufacturing and biomed sample handling.

The new X-Y bases offer very high levels of positioning performance. They are capable of move speeds of up to 1.5 metres/second at resolutions to 2.5 microns and with a repeatability of better than 2 microns. They also offer friction-free mechanics with zero-backlash and no wind-up — for a major performance improvement over traditional mechanical transmission design technologies, as well as maintenance savings.

The base’s moving element, the forcer, floats on an air bearing and integrates two linear stepper motors mounted at right angles to each other to provide X and Y directional thrust. The forcer is available in six sizes and in two- or four-phase configurations, depending on the application’s force and resolution requirements. The maximum static holding force is up to 134 N.

Application versatility is enhanced by the base’s ability to have multiple forcers mounted on the same base with overlapping trajectories if required. A high level of attractive force (up to 1780 N) also means that the base can be applied vertically or face down if the application demands. The base’s composite honeycomb structure simplifies applications like this, as the weight of the positioning system is reduced dramatically, by up to 70% compared with previous Baldor models for instance. Complete base weights with platen and forcer start at less than 10 kg.

The bases are supplied ready to use. All the user needs to supply is power to the forcer, and an air supply to the bearing system.
