PI (Physik Instrumente) introduces the L-511 linear stage series featuring minimum incremental motion as small as 0.02 µm. With travel ranges to 155 mm (6 in.), this 2-phase micro stepper motor platform is ideal for precision positioning demanded by science and industry, especially with high duty application cycles.
The L-511 stages come in travel ranges of 52 mm (2 in.), 102 mm (4 in.), and 155 mm (6 in.). They are designed with recirculating ball bearings for high-load capacity and durability at demanding repetitive cycle rates with velocities up to 45 mm/sec and despite the compact design can easily manage loads to 100 N (22 lb). The precision ball screw drive unit with 2 mm pitch is nested in a stress-relieved aluminum base for the greatest stability.
Multi-directional automation tasks are sped up with the addition of noncontact, direction-sensing optical reference point switches located in the middle of the travel range. Noncontact limit switches are integrated as well, to protect the mechanical structure.
The micro-stepped motors provide extremely smooth motion with a high dynamic range from microns/second to 45 mm/sec. To achieve the ultimate in control and positioning accuracy, the L-511 is available with a centrally located high-resolution linear encoder providing one nanometer resolution if operated with the MC Hydra controller. PI offers a large variety of controllers from cost efficient single-axis open-loop units to multi-axis closed-loop controllers for parallel-kinematic motion systems.
Applications include precision automation, micro assembly, optics alignment, scientific research, precision manufacturing. A vacuum compatible version is also available.
