Scientific calculator
Although every phone, tablet, and computer comes with a built-in calculator these days, a good scientific calculator (with RPN logic if you’re old-school) cannot be replaced. There’s some disagreement in the engineering community about whether a graphing calculator is necessary these days, since Excel can do pretty much anything a graphing calculator can do. But if you’re working with complex calculations, you can’t beat the additional functionality and expanded command stack that a graphing calculator offers.

Yup, a good set of calipers are a definite must. Don’t go cheap on them, because it’s important that you have calipers that are accurate (and needless to say the cheap ones usually aren’t).
