OES (Optimal Engineering Systems, Inc.) has added the AU300-AE-01 and AU300-AE-02, high resolution, high stability Azimuth and Elevation (Yaw and Pitch) Two-axis Gimbal Mounts to its product line. The Azimuth and Elevation Gimbal Mounts are ideal for mounting cameras, antennas, projectors, lasers and instrumentation for scanning, tracking, positioning optics, and other applications.
Each axis of the gimbal mount features low-backlash worm gear drives and precision “V” groove and cross roller bearings for high repeatability and positional accuracy. They’re available with either stepper motors (AU300-AE-01 pictured) or with three-phase brushless servo motors with Quadrature Optical Encoders (AU300-AE-02) for greater resolution, accuracy, and repeatability as well as higher travel speeds.
The azimuth (yaw) axis is mounted on a large 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 13 mm (0.512 in.) plate for increased stability and the elevation (pitch) axis has a clearance of 300 x 300 mm, (11.8 x 11.8 in.) around the roll axis stage. The elevation table has a precise pattern of threaded mounting holes for fixtures, tooling, and a centered 30-mm (1.181 in.) through hole.
Each AU300-AE Series Azimuth and Elevation Two-axis Gimbal Mount handles loads to 20 kg (45 lb), and the base plate has four handles and accessible pre-drilled mounting holes for easy integration into new or existing applications. Travel speed of each axis is 12 degrees/sec with stepper motors and 90 degrees/sec with servo motors. Electrical wiring is enclosed for protection and connections are made using 9 pin DB-9 connectors.
The knobs of the stepper motors may be replaced with optical encoders for position verification. The AU300-AE Motorized Two-axis Gimbal Mounts can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play system with a multi-axis controller, joystick, trackball, or keypad.
