Bishop-Wisecarver Group (BWG), recently announced that president Pamela Kan was awarded the Mary Lehman MacLachlan Economic Empowerment Award from the Women President’s Organization (WPO) at the group’s annual conference in April. The award is considered one of WPO’s most prestigious honors. Kan’s selection was in part based on her longtime personal and professional focus on helping women succeed in manufacturing and STEM careers.
Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., WPO president & founder, said, “Pamela embodies the qualities of the Mary Lehman MacLachlan Economic Empowerment Award, including economic independence, running a financially-sound business, providing positive financial benefits for staff and supporting other business women in her community. She is passionate about helping to create a more diverse, inclusive pipeline of employees for her industry and embodies the WPO tagline, ‘Reaching Farther. Together.’”
The Women President’s Organization is a peer advisory group for million-dollar plus women-led companies. At the WPO, accomplished women entrepreneurs from across the globe find support, empowerment, inspiration, and the ability to tap into the wisdom of their peers. Mary Lehman MacLachlan was a WPO advisory Board Member and a proponent of women’s economic empowerment. She believed women should be able to take care of themselves financially and should also help support other women to do the same.
“Mary Lehman MacLachlan was legendary for helping women understand their true potential in any industry they chose and inspiring women to help themselves by helping each other,” said Kan. “Winning this award is an incredible honor and I will strive to bring Mary’s passion and commitment to my efforts at helping women succeed, especially in manufacturing and STEM-based careers.”
