Compact, open-aperture voice coil stages from Moticont

July 20, 2020 By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

Moticont has debuted the HCDS-051-051 Series of eight linear open-aperture voice coil stages. These compact open-aperture stages have a small footprint of just 10.500 in. (266.7 mm) long x 4.000 in. (101.6 mm) wide x 3.755 in. (95.4 mm) high. Linear dc motor driven stages (also known as moving coil) are clean, quiet, and efficient, with low inertia, high acceleration, and high speed. Designed for closed-loop servo operation, an integral quadrature optical encoder with differential outputs is included. Each stage has a built-in home switch for accurate initialization upon power up. Open-aperture stages are ideal for a number of different applications including laser drilling and milling, optical focusing, testing, laser steering, mirror positioning, and the pass through of fiber optics, electrical, and air lines.

stages

Each HCDS-051-051 Series stage has precision threaded mounting holes for tooling or fixtures, and has a linear travel of 0.70 in (17.8 mm), a plug-and-play wired connector, and convenient mounting holes for easy integration into new or existing applications. The stages are available with a resolution of 29.5 microns, 25.4 microns, 12.7 microns, and 1 micron. Each stage is available with a continuous force of 5.2 lb (23.1 N) and a peak force of 16.4 lb (72.9 N), or a continuous force of 6.3 lb (28.0 N) and a peak force of 19.9 lb (88.6 N), and an optional return spring. Two sizes are available for the diameter of the aperture; 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) and 0.75 in. (19 mm).

The off-the-shelf HCDS-051-051 Series of eight voice coil driven stages is available as part of an XY or XYZ stage, and can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play system with a servo controller. Custom models with longer travels and high forces are also available.
