Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions (www.haydonkerk.com) has unveiled a microslide linear actuator that offers a maximum load capacity of 13N (3 lb-f) and a resolution of 15 microns/step (0.0006-in/step). Optimized for applications such as optical positioning and microfluidics, this device is also ideally suited for applications that require precision motion in a compact footprint.
The microslide measures 25.2 mm (1.0 in) high and 22 mm (0.87 in) wide, and delivers a maximum stroke length of 64 mm (2.5 in).
The lead screw bushing, which is attached rigidly to the aluminum motor mounting plate, is housed in the lightweight anodized aluminum base plate. The heart of the slide features a 15 mm (0.59 in) Haydon 15000 Series stepper motor linear actuator. The LS15 stepper motor eliminates the need for complicated controls as it can be commanded with a simple pulse and direction signal.
Made from self-lubricating polyacetal, the slide load carriage comes with an integrated clearance take-up mechanism for load rigidity when in motion. In addition, stainless steel guide rods that are coated with Black Ice TFE coating support the carriage. A 303 stainless steel, the Kerk leadscrew is offered in five different leads, including 1.0 mm (0.039-in), 2.0 mm (0.079-in), 0.3 mm (0.012-in), 0.4 mm (0.016-in) and 0.5 mm (0.020-in). It delivers very fine positioning resolution when combined with LS15 stepper motor.
The microslide can be easily configured for application-specific requirements, such as custom mounting, custom wire harnesses, magnetic or optical position sensors and different stroke lengths of up to 64 mm (2.5-in).
