Climax Portable Machine Tools (www.cpmt.com) has introduced a new portable milling machine with a split-rail system that enables configurations for both gantry milling and linear milling.
Designed with a rigid, modular bed, the device allows shorter bed sections to get combined fitting the necessary length of the work area, assuring rigidity and the option to extend the bed’s original length by two or three times.
First of its kind, the developer has indicated that service technicians and machinists working in the power generation, heavy construction, mining, and shipbuilding industries will be able to use the LM5200 and LM6200 models.
“This tool came out of conversations with our customers who told us they wanted a portable milling machine that minimizes the number of changeovers to complete a job, is versatile, rigid and that maximizes the mill’s footprint for each workspace,” said Geoff Gilmore, President of Climax Portable Machine Tools.
“Our engineering and design team realized that to meet customer demand, we needed to develop a milling machine that would completely re-define the concept of a portable milling machine.”
The linear/gantry mill combination sets the bar for “precision, functionality and features,” he added.
The developer has predicted that the two models would increase the number of machining projects doable needless to purchase or transport other mills. It also claimed that the two models allow precision milling, drilling and boring to be more efficiently done meeting tight tolerances in linear and gantry milling configurations alike.
I like what you said about the milling machine being designed with a rigid, modular bed. I think that milling machines are very useful for a variety of reasons. If I were to need such a product, I would look for a solid supplier.
