New high-performance miniature ball screws from SKF

March 1, 2018 By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

The new SP Series high-performance miniature ball screws from SKF Motion Technologies have been optimized to deliver precise positioning, excellent repeatability, and smooth-running and quiet linear actuation. Their advanced internal ball recirculation system and thread design additionally enable higher speed capabilities and longer operating life compared with conventional rolled ball screws. These small packages ultimately can help extend mini machine reliability, increase speed and output, and reduce noise for a wide range of medical, laboratory, automation, and other small equipment applications.

Among key design features, an innovative ball recirculation path allows balls to be picked up and recirculated smoothly for quieter and faster operation up to 15,000 rpm, depending on ball diameter. Optimized and compact nut geometry significantly reduces noise and is less sensitive to misalignment. An ideal thread profile and specialized surface finish technology contribute enhanced running and reliability characteristics. A threaded nose promotes easy mounting and a lubrication hole is standard for accessible greasing.

SP Series ball screws range in diameter from 8 to 16 mm and are available with leads from 2.5 to 5 mm and screw shaft lengths up to 2,000 mm.

These ball screw assemblies can be equipped with accessories for screw shafts and nuts and supplied with support bearing packages pre-assembled and ready to go. They can be customized further with cut-to-length screw shafts, machined ends, specific axial play values, backlash elimination, and wipers, among other options to meet application-specific demands.
