EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The availability of a new iglide bearings brochure, specifically geared towards the medical industry by Igus® Inc. “Iglide and DryLin for Medical and Laboratory Equipment” is igus’ latest informational flyer and includes product data about the company’s plain plastic bearings and linear guide systems, as well as various medical application examples.

The easy-to-use, 10-page brochure includes a rundown of the features and benefits of such iglide bearings as iglide R, a low-cost replacement for bronze bearings; iglide T500, a high-temperature bearing with superior chemical resistance; and iglide A200, ideal for applications requiring FDA-approved material. “Iglide and DryLin for Medical and Laboratory Equipment” also includes pertinent facts about igus’ comprehensive lines of DryLin linear guide systems and slide tables, which are ideal for medical applications.

From the construction of wheelchairs to ambulance cots to a wide array of medical devices, iglide, igubal and DryLin components play a vital role. One example included in the brochure sites the use of DryLin W linear guide systems, developed to promote design flexibility and quick assembly, in a portable incubator. The incubator, used to transport critically ill babies, requires smooth, quiet operation, as well as no lubrication in order to meet crucial infection-control protocols. DryLin W increases both bed stroke and stability, while providing a dry-running performance in the incubator. It is considered to be a key component in the device.

Another example in the brochure focuses on iglide G300 bearings in an automatic decanting centrifuge. Iglide G300 replaced metal bearings in the unit, which separates and concentrates components of a patient’s blood. By replacing the metal bearings with iglide G300, costs were reduced by 93 percent and assembly time was cut by 10 minutes.
