Plastic bearings prove a versatile, cost-effective solution for engineers

★ By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

 EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Igus® Inc., offers iglide J, a cost-effective, maintenance-free alternative to bronze, metal-backed and custom injection-molded bearings. Iglide J is available in sleeve, flange and thrust-washer configurations and also can be custom molded to meet the specific needs of any customer.

Iglide J is ideal for both high-speed and low-speed applications, as it operates flawlessly at rates up to 1,968 feet per minute (fpm) in linear motion and 197 fpm in rotary motion. Even when used on a wide range of different shaft materials such as hard anodized aluminum or cold rolled steel, iglide J incurs little to no wear, which makes it a versatile solution for engineers. Iglide J also possesses an extremely low coefficient of friction in applications that do not exceed 5,075 pounds per square inch (psi).

In addition to these benefits, iglide J is also:

  • lubrication-free;
  • corrosion-resistant;
  • UV-resistant; and
  • impervious to chemicals such as alcohol, weak acids and fuels.
  • Due to its many merits, igus uses iglide J throughout its product lines. The material is used in its DryLin R linear bearings, which are well-suited for debris-ridden or wet environments and its linear slide elements used on every DryLin linear guide system.

    Igus’ entire iglide family includes more than 7,000 inch and metric bearing sizes and styles available from stock.
