Rexroth ball-screw assemblies increase service life by 80%

★ By Lisa Eitel Leave a Comment

Bosch Rexroth now offers an 80% increase in the service life of its ball-screw assemblies thanks to continuously improved production processes. Design engineers can use smaller sizes for the same power requirements. Delivery times have also been shortened through the digitalization of engineering process, as well as optimized logistics.

As a leading manufacturer of linear motion technology, Bosch Rexroth has relied on the cold shaping rolling process for screw manufacturing for decades. During this time, the company has continuously increased its manufacturing expertise and improved its processes including the development process for producing ball nuts. These improvements in both screw and nut production have increased the dynamic load capacity of ball screw assemblies in accuracy classes T3 and T5 by 20 percent. The dynamic load capacity is a decisive parameter for size selection and service life of ball screw assemblies.

As a result, the improved dynamic load capacity increases the nominal life of Rexroth ball screw assemblies by up to 80 percent. Comprehensive stress and life cycle tests in various usage scenarios validate these values, plus the increased load capacity leads directly to an increase in power density. In many cases, design engineers can now use a smaller size to deliver the same required amount of power, which reduces system costs, saves installation space and lowers weight.

Short delivery times thanks to modern logistics and lean processes

Screws and nuts are basic Rexroth components manufactured centrally at its factory in Schweinfurt/Volkach. The factory supplies regional warehouses in all major markets, offering consistently high quality with short lead times worldwide. At the Customizing Centers in the Americas, Europe and Asia, the screws are cut to length and the ends are machined according to the customer’s specific requirements. The most frequently ordered configurable linear motion systems and components are available through Rexroth’s popular GoTo Focused Delivery Program.

Digitalized configuration of ball-screw products

Rexroth has digitalized the entire engineering process with the Linear Motion Designer (LMD) calculation tool, design engineers can now quickly and easily determine the right ball screw assemblies for their application. Rexroth authorized distributors can then easily check the configuration against the GoTo offering of Ball Screw Products. Alternately customers can also check Rexroth’s popular GoTo Products app for eligible Ball Screw products before starting a configuration.
