Protei Shape-shifting Sailing Robot
Scoutbots
When working on a team to clean up the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Cesar Harada decided to devote his career to developing a fast, inexpensive, and open-source technology for tackling ocean pollution. The outcome is a project named Protei, based on a new, robotic sailing technology. The robots are currently used for monitoring pollution, but the ultimate aim of the project is to use these shape-shifting sailboats to clean oil spills and collect ocean debris to save our oceans.
