Rockwell Automation PACK EXPO Highlights

★ By Editor Leave a Comment

MILWAUKEE, Wi – PACK EXPO this year, Rockwell Automation (Booth No. N-4457) will demonstrate how its wide range of integrated control and information systems can provide manufacturers with significant productivity and cost savings benefits while helping OEMs enhance their competitive position. With a “What Matters” theme, the Rockwell Automation booth will explore issues that are important in packaging applications, including performance, efficiency, safety, information, life-cycle costs, standards, quality components and global partnerships. PACK EXPO 2006 is scheduled for Oct. 29 through Nov. 2 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

“Regardless of global geography or vertical industry, every OEM is under constant competitive pressure to meet the universal manufacturing demand for high quality, high value and high performance,” said Mike Wagner, business development manager, Rockwell Automation. “We can show OEMs how to use our Integrated Architecture to achieve these goals and gain a distinct competitive advantage.”

The Rockwell Automation booth will showcase the company’s Integrated Architecture solutions and global support capabilities for the packaging industry including:

Kinematics Robot Control. Ideal for pick-and-place and other complex motion control applications, Kinematics allows an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programmable automation controller (PAC) to execute multi-axes robot control while eliminating the additional controllers, software and special function blocks typically needed when incorporating a robot into a packaging application. Rockwell Automation will use a Delta 3 Robot to demonstrate how the Allen Bradley ControlLogix PAC platform increases connectivity, reduces complexity, and eliminates the difficult integration that is commonly required in proprietary control applications.

Linear Motor Technology. Rockwell Automation will demonstrate how to control a gantry system using off-the-shelf linear motor technology including an Anorad LC Iron Core Linear Motor. Key benefits of Rockwell Automation linear motors include ultimate smoothness of motion, as well as high precision at varying velocities and accelerations.

Boolean I/O Module. The newest addition to the Allen-Bradley Compact I/O family from Rockwell Automation offers users an opportunity to manage advanced control capabilities in packaging applications. Designed for use with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 controllers, the new Compact I/O module has the intelligence to activate outputs based on Boolean logic. This alleviates overhead on the controller and can result in faster response times and improved system performance.

CompactLogix L43. Controlling up to four axes of motion, the CompactLogix L43 programmable automation controller is ideal for packaging applications requiring speed, motion synchronization and information-sharing capabilities. Combined with the Rockwell Automation Kinetix Integrated Motion offering, the new L43 PAC delivers the benefits of a truly integrated motion control solution providing both motion and discrete control into a single, integrated multitasking platform. OEMs can configure and program the entire system, controller, drives and motors with a single software package, RSLogix5000, helping to reduce commissioning, installation and maintenance costs, providing users a lower total system cost.

Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK), is a leading global provider of automation, power, control, and information solutions that help manufacturers achieve a competitive advantage in their businesses. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis., U.S.A., the company employs about 21,000 people serving customers in more than 80 countries.
