Recap of top linear-motion technologies at MD&M West

Conveyors in an array of setups for medical-device manufacturing

From there, I got the chance to connect with our own team’s Tom Lazar to meet Janelle and Stacey of QC Industries, a conveyor manufacturer that sells low-profile belt conveyors for medical, packaging, and general automation applications.

This is a picture of a QC Industries conveyor for heavy loads:

By housing the drive motor inside the conveyor pulley, QC Industries’ InnerDrive setups take up less space than traditional conveyor drives.

A 2.54-in. profile lets InnerDrive Conveyors fit myriad applications. Here, a 24-Vdc motor inside the drive pulley outputs maximum torque via gearing to move 100-lb loads to 60 feet per min.

On another setup, we spotted a washdown motor from another motion-industry leader, Oriental Motor.

Also from QC Industries on display at MD&M West 2016 were Center Drive conveyors. These work where both ends of the conveyor interface with other machines. The drive package is under the belt but move anywhere on the frame to keep clear of other machine and plant equipment. In fact, plant personnel can move the drive to any point along the conveyor by loosening some bolts and then tightening the drive in place.

A final offering from QC Industries at MD&M West 2016 — conveyor configurations for elevating or lowering products. In these conveyors, an aluminum frame resists twisting that compromises other conveyors’ tracking.
