SPS/IPC/Drives Day 1

★ By Editor Leave a Comment

SPS/IPC/Drives show in Nürnburg is a break out show!  Today I spent the majority of the day walking the show and here is what left an impression:

Dozens of companies showing and demonstrating drives and motion controls.  It reminds me of the Tokyo System Fair that I attended ten years ago in which company after company had motion controllers, servos and VFDs. However this show has an abundance of Networks, Motors of many types and sizes, and good attendance.

• Show is really, really big and well attended!  Some booths were even difficul in getting around to look at the products.

• Phoenix Contact booth very well attended with several new products:

1) Mechatrolink bus coupler
2) New SERCOS III bus coupler

The Networks were out in full force.

Dominating the show is CANBUS OPEN Network, followed up by Profibus and ProfiNet as well as the pack of specialized Ethernet varieties (EtherNet IP, Control Link, EtherCAT)

Clever Marketing

System Antriebstechnik of Dresden Germany used PINK motors to get people to ask why PINK?  They explain they have PINK, BLUE, GREEN and WHITE motors to highlight the different features. The use of color here worked extremely well to hook attendees.

The crowd pleaser of the day goes to Group Schneider. Their pick and place demo had a line of people waiting to get their free trinket delivered by:

Come back for day 2.
