Ultra-compact BLMUC linear motor for tight space applications

★ By Editor Leave a Comment

The BLMUC Series linear motor from Aerotech Inc. is an ultra-compact “U channel” motor especially designed to deliver high force in an ultra-compact package.

The linear motor features non contact forcer assembly which has a “U channel” track, thermal sensor as well as Hall-effect devices which help eliminate wear and maintenance as well as windup and backlash issues associated with belts, ball screws as well as rack and pinions.

The motor’s forcer assembly is made from compact, reinforced ceramic epoxy with an ironless design to eliminate eddy-current losses and cogging which leads to limited speed and additional heat production. This non-magnetic forcer enables super-smooth velocity and position control.

BLMUC Series linear motors are suitable for small load applications such as low-mass, high-acceleration material handling machines which require high levels of accuracy and positioning resolution as well as in a pick head on a pick-and-place machine which has limited Z-axis space.

This linear motor is easy to align and assemble and keeps the magnetic field well-contained. The magnet tracks embedded in the motor are stackable for any travel length and can also be used for cleanroom applications as they produce no particulates.

This ultra-compact BLMUC linear motor measures only 52.0 mm x 20.8 mm in cross section. The motor has a peak force of up to 231.8 N (52.1 lb) and a continuous force of up to 58.0 N (13.0 lb).

The BLMUC Series linear motor works with a standard Aerotech brushless amplifiers and controllers to deliver a complete integrated system.
